Hi, this is Johnn Four. I’m a professional RPG author who writes award-winning GM books and articles to help you run awesome game sessions.
I’d like to send you tips and ideas and advice about game mastering, at no charge. I do this because I’ve been GMing for 32 years and I want to see our beloved RPG hobby survive and thrive.
Roleplaying games are such an amazing activity. They challenge our minds and imagination. They let us hang out with friends and make new ones. They let us play, which is vital to healthy living.

Here are a few reasons why joining up will help you become a Master GM.
Reason #1: Get Personal GMing Help
As a Roleplaying Tips subscriber, you can make personal topic requests.
You describe the tips you want and I’ll write them for you. This service is only available to subscribers. I was getting too many tip requests from the general public to keep up, so now I restrict personal advice to you and your fellow Roleplaying Tips subscribers.
“Gotta tell you this site has made a MASSIVE change in the way my games run. I would not be surprised if you hear this often but I am a huge advocate of voicing my joy of something unique.
I read your site every couple of days and have been around for a while. Really want to stretch out a thanks. You’re one of my top 3 websites I browse on all of the internet. This site is a great idea, with great execution, and great accomplishments.”
– Kelcey Vehanen
Reason #2: Get Help from Game Masters around the World
With your free subscription, you can also make Reader Tip Requests.
The best thing about the Roleplaying Tips community is the 10,000 game masters who read and help their fellow GMs out by writing in with tips of their own.
When I make a Reader Tip Request on your behalf, I gather all the submissions, edit and republish so you benefit from the experience and wisdom from GMs worldwide.
Reason #3: Treasure Type Q – Friday Gems
Over the years I have saved a long list of links to cool GMing resources, software and aids. I’ve also bookmarked many sites unrelated to game mastering but perfect for ideas and inspiration.
Each week I send out 1d4 of these links to you in digestible, browsable chunks. These are not regurgitated blog roll links. These are links to specific tools, articles and GM resources.
In Monster Manual 1 for AD&D, which I cut my teeth on as a newbie GM in the 80s, there is a wonderful treasure table at the back. It is keyed from A-Z, 26 treasure packages in all.
I’ve named these Friday emails of cool links after one of the entries in this wonderful table of treasure:
Treasure Type Q has a 50% chance of 1d4 gems
Reason #4: Contests = Loot & Free Books
You also receive chances to enter contests and random draws to win fabulous prizes. Last year I gave away dozens of books, software titles and website subscriptions.
But wait, there’s more. Most contests involve some kind of simple content requirement to enter.
For example, a one-line NPC concept. After the contest is over, I package up all the contest entries, edit and publish them in a free PDF that Roleplaying Tips subscribers can download for free.
Recent books include 650 Fantasy City Encounters, Combat Swipes – Fight Descriptions, One-Line NPCs and 5 Room Dungeons. It’s all cool stuff and very useful for game masters.
“Love the tips. It has helped me become a better GM, and I’m sure my players appreciate that. And in being a better GM, I enjoy being a GM even more. Thanks!”
– from the 2012 RPT Reader Survey
Reason #5: Special Deals
Game publishers offer me discounts and special deals to pass on to you and other Roleplaying Tips readers.
Things like freebies, special sales and book bundle deals. If you buy game stuff, you might as well save some money, right?
Subscribers also get exclusive deals on my products and services. I reward my fans, followers and supporters by offering pre-release special offers to the game master books and aids I created as a thank you for being a member of the Roleplaying Tips Community.
For example, when I launched the Faster Combat course, subscribers received a 77% discount during a beta launch period the public did not have access to. This gave readers like you opportunity to shape the Faster Combat course in additional to getting an awesome deal.
Reason #6: Improve Your GMing
And now for the most important reason. To become a better game master!
We can all learn something new about GMing. That’s what I love most about being a GM – it’s a lifelong journey.
Whether it’s from the tips you receive, the ebooks or products you get, or the advice you share back with your fellow readers, you will become a better game master by signing up to Roleplaying Tips, guaranteed.
