A Great Isometric Point Crawl Map

Here’s a super Daggerheart point crawl map created by @muted and shared with the Roleplaying Tips community that I thought you might enjoy.

I am running a loop countdown (started on a location just outside of the dungeon – the Dig) and the dungeon is a collection of a few custom Daggerheart environments (The Pit, temple, burial chambers…) that are noted in the map.

  • Every time the counter loops, each environment has its own thematic “reaction”.
  • Each floor has a list of rooms with evocative names so I can improvise the description (combined with info in Environment).
  • The countdown moves on every cautious move between rooms and every roll with fear outside of combat.
  • The only floor that has no room names is the pit, but that one is special. I roll 1d6 for six rooms to find where sh*t happens.
  • The last list is a list of magical items, with no specific place, that I provide players where it makes narrative sense.
  • Secrets and clues are on a separate sheet. Currently, this is the most info I can have with the least flipping of papers to find what I need.
  • And since it is a rescue mission, I note every time the counter loops and the number of loops has an effect on the state of the rescuees.
  • And I am still working on adding some tips throughout the map. Sounds coming from other sections, scents noted in the Pit, etc. I will add some in the next Tiny Prep. Not necessary, but helpful.

I based it on this article from Murkdice using graph paper printed from this site. I tried many different styles/schemas, but this finally clicked with me, and it’s easy to draw.

Thanks for the great share @muted.

I like your 3D map approach, and how you used solid and dotted lines to easily follow routes and connections.

I also appreciate you using simple numbers and a key to make the map clean and readable.

Keeping the loot and mechanics list on the map is a fantastic agile GM prep move, as well.

I need to give a crawl map like this a whirl!
